Covid-19 Travel and Testing Requirements

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY INTO THE UNITED STATES

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

As of November, 20201, the United States requires all non-US citizens to be ‘fully-vaccinated’ before boarding a flight to the United States. In order to be considered fully-vaccinated, an individual must be 2 weeks (14 days) past their second dose of a two-dose vaccine (e.g., Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca) or 2 weeks (14-days) past their receiving a single-dose vaccine (e.g., Johnson & Johnson/Jannsen) at the time of departure.

The United States currently only considers people fully-vaccinated if they have received a vaccine with clearance from either the FDA (USA) or the WHO, which includes, but is not limited to, Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson&Johnson / Jannsen, AstraZeneca, and Sinovac. Please note that the Sputnik vaccine has not received clearance by either the FDA or WHO.

Be aware that airlines maintain their own vaccine requirements, which may differ from those of the United States government and related institutions. Refer to your airline’s policy before departure.

You can consult the United States Department of State website for more information.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS

As of December, 2021, the United States requires a negative Covid-19 test, administered by a professional, taken within 1 day (24 hours) of departure to the United States for re-entry into the country regardless of vaccination status. Both Rapid Antigen (Rapid) and Molecular (PCR) test are accepted.

If you have recovered from Covid-19 within 90 days of your departure, the United States will accept your positive test result along with a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or public health official stating recovery from Covid-19 in place of a negative Covid-19 test.

Be aware that airlines maintain their own testing requirements, which may differ from those of the United States government and related institutions. Refer to your airline’s policy before departure.

You can consult the United States Department of State website for more information.

QUARANTINE REQUIREMENTS

Vaccinated individuals are not required to quarantine after arrival into the United States. The CDC recommends taking a Covid-19 test within 3 days (72 hours) after your arrival and to continue monitoring yourself for symptoms of Covid-19—this is a recommendation and not required. If your post-arrival test result is positive, however, you are will be required to follow all local quarantine rules. Please also consult state and local laws regarding quarantining following international travel.
